Natasha more than just a flash in pan

Beaded Evening Dresses The 44-year-old cut an elegant figure when she arrived on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala in New York, accompanied by the designer Tom Ford. But as she gathered up the hem of her pale pink evening gown to negotiate the steps, she unwittingly flashed her flesh-coloured underwear at the assembled photographers.Richardson, the daughter of thespians Tony Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave, and the wife of actor Liam Neeson, was unaware of her style faux pas and beamed away for the cameras. Luckily for the actress, whose film credits include Maid In Manhattan and The Parent Trap, most of the attention was focused on Victoria Beckham. The annual gala, known as the Met Ball, attracted an array of A-listers.And with the world's most glamorous women in attendance, Beckham opted for the most striking of outfits to ensure all eyes were on her.Posh Spice appeared to be channeling the "dowager duchess" look in a white beaded dress coat by Giorgio Armani, which turned transparent under the glare of the photographers' flashbulbs. With her powdered face and swept-up hair, she looked decidedly older than her years as she posed with her footballer husband, David. It was a bold change of image for the 34-year-old, who usually favours revealing dresses and soaring hemlines. The Beckhams were joined on the red carpet by their friends, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Holmes wore a red strapless gown, also by Armani, and a pair of cobalt blue heels which served to emphasise the height difference between the actress and her diminutive husband. There had been talk of a rift between the two couples, but that was firmly put to rest when Victoria appeared on Monday's episode of the Oprah Winfrey talk show, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of Cruise's film career."They really know how to have a laugh," Victoria said, recalling a raucous night in Madrid which ended with the foursome doing the conga around a restaurant and Cruise serenading his wife with You've Lost That Loving Feeling, from his movie, Top Gun.Cruise also played a crucial role in the early days of the Beckhams' romance. Victoria explained: "One of our first dates, we went to the movies to see Jerry Maguire, and I wore glasses. It was the first time David kissed me, and he completely steamed up my glasses."When we got to know Tom, we told him the story of how it was one of our first dates, and he sent us the jacket that he wore in one of the scenes, and he signed it." She joked: "David hasn't taken the jacket off since. I make him wear it."For his part, David chipped in to say that The Last Samurai, a historical epic set starring Cruise, was "one of my most favourite films".The Beckhams were seated on the top table at the event, which Julia Roberts and George Clooney hosted alongside Vogue editor Anna Wintour. The newly-engaged Scarlett Johansson arrived on the arm of designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, showing off her diamond engagement ring.Supermodel Kate Moss posed arm-in-arm with designer Stella McCartney, while actresses Thandie Newton, Emily Mortimer, Tilda Swinton and Natasha Richardson helped to represent the British contingent.Newton was one of the few who dared to go short, wearing a black Chanel mini.
